Can you get viruses/spyware/adware from streaming videos or music online?

for example, i find a link for a song and i click that link, then my windows media player opens up playing that song, is there a chance that something bad also got on my computer?

You CANNOT get viruses from media files. You are only at risk when code is actually run from a program. But you can from programs that are supposed to run or download them, like file sharing apps or ActiveX controls.

it shouldn't - if it's a safe site that is. It's always a good idea to have your Anti-virus and firewall on though. Beware of mp3 sites, other than stuff like, mp3.com, soundclick.com, garageband.com, etc.



Any of those sites though that offer ''Free Album Downloads''...stay away from, cause then, yes, you will get a virus, or spyware.

you can get viruses from simply going to a website. Only download mp3 files and not .zip files.
