hi, spyware/adware is a disgusting and infamous virus. perhaps you can try Norton to remove the virus. but you need to pay for the software.
I've never been infected by spyware or adware, and have had one email virus in about 10 years of internet use - there are a few simple reasons for this.
1. I use Linux.
2. I don't go to porn sites.
3. I don't use peer-to-peer services.
4. I don't go to crack/hack sites.
So in my opinion the key to computer security is ''be sensible''. If you go to lots of ''suspicious places'' on the internet, then you're going to infect your computer. Stay away, and your PC will be fine.

I use the holy trinity of AVG antivirus, Ad Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy. As long as you keep them up to date, they will keep your hard drive pristine.
I think your virus scanner (AVG?) is referring to documents that it cannot scan because it dioesn't have permission or cannot access them directly because they are in use - these are most probably temporary system files and nothing to worry about.
For spyware and adware use spyware doctor heard thats the best so far. For viruses and security protection get norton antivirus and firewall, but i believe you can get free spyware and adware removers and virus, hackers etc. One i no is avgas antivrius and spyware and adware its quiet good but not as good, but it does the trick.

I have seen a post said one should not only has a anti-virus program, a anti-spyware should be also necessary. They do two different things, and you need both. Spyware like Ad-Aware and SpyBot, get non-virus things that can cause a lot of problems. Antivirus, like Avast or AVG, get the viruses that can cause your computer to stop running completely or even cause you to have to reformat the hard drive if it gets infected. So, there is no vs, or versus. Run both but not two antivirus.
I have both SpyBot and Ad-Aware, and Avast for antivirus, and have used all three for three years. I run Ad-Aware every day, as I'm on the internet a lot.

Estalive is a Chinese adware program that displays advertisements on your PC. Also known as AskYaya.
I download it into my PC and Spybot detected it, so maybe your spybot is not Up to date, or you gave permission without noticing for this to run on your PC.
Different spyware product will pick up different things, it depends on how good they are, if they are free or not and how often they are updated.
You should remove Estalive from your PC.

You CANNOT get viruses from media files. You are only at risk when code is actually run from a program. But you can from programs that are supposed to run or download them, like file sharing apps or ActiveX controls.

Since no single anti-spyware program can detect and eradicate all spyware. It is best to use more than one program, I recommend using Ad-aware and Spybot which are among the best (they are free). Webroot Spy Sweeper is the best but it's not free (see the consumer source source for more information).

Before you take the drastic step of reformating and re-installing your XP, you could run both of these on-line (no installation) scans and let them remove what they find. Both are free and excellent at detecting malware.

ad-aware and spybot both together work fine, don't listen to others who say to have both is wrong, it was recommended by download.com to have both, and i'm also a tech for over 8 years and do reviews of software for download.com, and to have both of those right now is your best protection, and neither one will conflict, it's a known fact....I run them both myself....
for one thing...Norton sucks, sorry to say, but it does, hogs resources like memory etc, and makes your p.c sluggish, plus it's not really easy to uninstall.

Having more than one antispyware program may not work. I suggest you to use only one of them. Uninstall one of them, and you should be uninstalling Spy Sweeper because my experience with Spy Sweeper was a wiered one. It was not able to detect spywares from its own partner sites. It's not the case with Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition by Lavasoft. AdAware SE is the best one, update it and uninstall Spy Sweeper.

Adware won't get rid of viruses. I'm assuming by Trend Micro PC you mean PC-cillin and if so then you definitely don't want to remove it because that's what you need to remove the viruses.

PCTools products do get good reviews. The good thing is they have free versions of their products. They work great. Spyware Doctor from the Google pack is a must. I highly recommend it. I bought Webroots Spysweeper and spyware doctor finds stuff spysweeper does not. Having both is a perfect combo and I recommend running two anti-spyware products.

I recently downloaded a free smiles pack called 'message skinner' for my msn messenger and since then i have been having problems, i removed the programme because it was giving me loas of annoying advertising but after that the problem seems to have got worse, every time i'm browsing the web i get things popping up in my taskbar and its driving me nuts. Spybot S%26D, had pop-ups at work that Ad Aware and AVG wouldn't find. Since I have used Spybot the pop-ups have gone away as well as other malicious codes. It has a program attached that it will scan running programs in the background and will stop codes it thinks are malicious. I have used Ad Aware and did another scan right after and it was finding more things, and don't download AVG their mainframe got hacked about a month or two ago, a hacker put on there code that would download malicious software on the computer i believe (see link) and as well with AVG didn't find things as well. I use McAfee as my virus software but I hear that bit defender and trend micro are good virus software to use too
Um well there is Ad aware 2007/08 and AVG free edition good ones haven't tried the one from microsoft uh if their OS can't block it I would be carefull with their scanner
I had one that was called Ad Aware SE but when I ran my new Norton Security it took it off and I no longer can find it on the web. It worked great and my cable company helped me put it on my computer. If I could find how to install it again even that would be fine. My computer really slows down without it. Thanks!

1. Use WPA encryption (WPA-PSK) it's less crackable then WEP.

I am an MCSE and I use Avast and AVG with no problems. They are good anti-virus programs but that is not what you are asking. Microsoft has a free spyware program called Windows Defender and it even includes 2 free support incidents.

This seems an ''ok'' enough configuration as long as you're happy at being ''reactive'' to being infected. Programs like ad-aware and spybot are good removers of malware, but they don't stop or protect you from being infected in the first place - merely cleaning up the mess once your computer has already been compromised.

Some viruses and other malware will intentionally disable any anti virus and anti-spyware that is on your computer so the virus cannot be removed.
You will need to use an on-line scanner to detect and remove the pests.

If you've already tried whatever virus removal tools, you can restore to an earlier date. Like just before you downloaded this problem. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, and system restore. It will walk you through the rest. Its one way anyway, works for me.

Based upon my experience and rewiews ive read. spy bot search and destroy works well at finding viruses adware exe... but fails at remove ing most of it. The main reson for this is because your pc is still proccessing information from the file or reading it. While this is happening most fies wont delete or delete properly. I recomend u try to run spybot S %26 D in save mode.

Yes, Spybot is a very good spyware removal app, you may also want to install at least a couple more as some tend to find things the others don't. You also may want to try the utility hijack this which is a huge help in removing difficult spyware/malware etc..

Technically it is. According to Ad-Aware and Microsoft Defender, which are spyware removers. To uninstall go to Control Panel, and Add/Remove Programs. Find Smiley Central Toolbar or anything else thats relevant with Smiley Central. Then remove.
NO!!!!!!!! i downloaded it and nothing has happened at all. My friends said it would add $20 to the bill, and it didn't. Don't listen to other people. I've had Smily Central for almost a year now and my computer is F-I-N-E fine. It doesn't spy or ad stuff. If your so concerned then you can learn how to uninstall it on your own.
It is spy ware. To delete it you go to control panel on start and then you go to Add/Remove programs. you find something that has to do with smiley central and you press remove. Or if you have that spy ware warning thing that pops up on your desktop instead of pressing ''continue what i was doing'' press ''scan and remove this program''
I use Lavasoft, but I really don't like it. It says I have for example 20 infections and my results only say it has deleted about 5 of them..Are there any other good options that are easier to use and better? Or should I just keep lavasoft

most virus are spread through IE. IE is not a safe browser. you should use a more secure browser to protect your PC from virus.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can block any any popup and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE browser. as you know, most of virus spread throught internet and webpage.
everytime i download antivirus software, the software itself or some of it becomes trojan viruses as well. what is going on? how do i resolve this problem?
My advice: try to download the ''Stinger'' - and when Stinger finds a trojan or virus, it might delete it. After your scan with Stinger you should get a good antivirus software. You can download AVG Free or AVAST for free - but ONLY one antivirus software on your computer - never more.

@Lee T: what you say is nonsense. I am using freeware stuffs for years (free antivirus and free antispy softwares) and I never had any problems with that. You can spend lots of money for ''Norton'', but every computer freak today knows that ''Norton'' is crap!
I would not download freeare, i would download stuff that you have to pay for, then if there is a problem and it is giving yuou viruses then complain to the company.

I've scanned the computer several times but this thing keeps popping up.
I'm afraid that the only way to really get rid of it, is to Reinstall your computer system like Windows Vista again. Which means erasing everything from your computer, %26 reinstalling the operating system again. That's the only ''For Sure to get rid of it'' way there really is.

I've found that Norton's not too good with adware. I suggest you find another program that specifically targets spyware and adware. What I use in conjunction with Norton in Ad-Aware. The first time I ran a scan, I found 400+ tracking cookies. Granted, these are that big of a problem, but they're problems Norton didn't catch. Ad-Aware is also free. Consider picking it up or something similar.

I'm not a tech personally but my brother-in-law is and he absolutely does not have anything good to say about Norton, he recommended AVG Free to me, he said where they work they use McAffee and after using it to scan some of their pc's they still couldn't get rid of some stuff and he download AVG and it got rid of it. Anyway this is just my experience, I've used AVG for like 3 years now and have never had any problems with trojans, viruses, or adware. Hopefully it stays that way. I have pop-up blocker enabled, and it's blocking pop-ups from websites, but I still get pop-ups, often with adult content, while I'm browsing sites that don't normally have pop-ups. I've run several full scans with the three programs I mentioned, but they all say that no threats have been detected. My computer has become somewhat slower since these pop-ups began appearing.

VirusProtect Pro, also known as VirusProtectPro, is the latest rogue anti-spyware program to come out from the makers of SpyDawn and VirusBurst. VirusProtect Pro is installed by a trojan called Zlob, which attempts to trick you into buying the alleged anti-spyware program. I know i have already asked this question, but i cant seem to find a solution to removing this malware. I did everything you guys told me in the last post - I tried to restore my system, but it doesn't work, I did the online scan with Ewido, no result. try spyware doctor by downloading it online. it may not delete the spyware but it locates it so you can manuely. for the hkey i sujest you really know what you are doing because deleting the wrong thing or not all needed to delete can completly ruin your computer. You get into the hkeys by going to ''start'' then ''run'' (not search) then type in ''regedit'' donot include the ''. Be very careful and i am not reliable for if you mess up or download the wrong thing. a software that does remove it for you is Ad-Aware SE Personal with out you regisering. The problem is it doesnt find everything. I would try this first if you are not sure about what you are doing.
PS spyware doctor does go well if you have Mcmafee virus remover software
like looking into the msconfig and system registry
find where it installs itself, then go to that folder or the place in the registry and delete it (regedit)

It's best to scan with several virus/spyware programs. There's several online ones free that you can use. I like panda and bitdefender best because they've found the most viruses. Adaware is best for removing spyware.

I would suggest using a program and backing up all of your files off of the computer using DVD or CD. If you mess up the registry you could render the operating system useless.
Spybot Search and Destroy can remove things from teh registry without killing the operating system. Doing so on your own is at your own risk.
Well, try using a search engine for the particular spyware name (any file in particular?) , and see what files and registry entries it installed. Then try to stop the processes, delete those files, and remove the registry entries. But I wouldn't do this without making some sort of a backup, and even then, using a spyware scanner is better.
Also, there's a cool tool called HijackThis, which gives you a list of startups, registry entries, etc, then you can remove the ones which are suspicious.
Why would you want to do it manually, though? There are tons of free and useful programs (Ad-Aware, Spybot, Microsoft Anti-Spyware) that'll do it for you :)
if you know what is spyware or adware you can just delete but if you don't you must use adware/spyware scanner
